Dental Anesthesia
What is Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA)?
Single tooth anesthetic (STA) is a revolutionary new way to provide local anesthetic to our patients. Using a handheld device that's known as the Wand, we are able to deliver precise amounts of anesthetic just to the area that it's needed. This prevents the pain and sharp sting that you'd experience with traditional injections, and it prevents your entire face, lips and tongue from being numb.
Why would Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA) be needed?
The Wand is useful when it comes to any procedure that requires local anesthetic. The majority of patients who fear the dental office say that injections are why they avoid coming in for treatment in the first place. By reducing the pain and sting of traditional injections, there is less fear and anxiety when coming into the office. Likewise, you'll benefit from a local anesthetic that works only on the tooth that's being treated, which prevents having a numb face and tongue for hours on end.
Who is a candidate for Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA)?
Every patient coming into our office is a good candidate for single tooth anesthetic. Children are especially good candidates, since many of them are fearful of injections and will find the Wand to be less scary. If a procedure requires local anesthetic, we can offer you the benefits of the Wand and the technology behind how the machine works. Many of our patients have switched to our office from others because of our use of the Wand.
What can you expect with Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA)?
We will sit you comfortably in one of our examination rooms. We then use a small handheld device that looks like a pen to numb the tooth being treated. The technology behind the machine is unlike any other, and it actually assesses the thickness of the gums to determine the amount of anesthetic needed. The anesthetic is administered directly into the area that is being treated. You'll experience quicker and more effective numbing without the annoyance of having a numb face and tongue.
